| Abstract: | This article delves into the potential of various renewable energy technologies on NijhumDwip a tranquil island in the Bay of Bengal. It explores the practicality and sensitivity assessment of establishing an electrical power system powered by renewable energy aiming to support sustainable development and implement charging stations for fishing boats in NijhumDwip, Bangladesh. The research emphasizes the use of renewable energy sources such as solar, wind, and biogas power to fulfill the energy needs of this isolated island while minimizing environmental repercussions. A thorough sensitivity analysis assesses the impact of critical variables, including resource availability, system costs and policy frameworks on the effectiveness and sustainability of the system. The results suggest that integrating renewable energy systems in NijhumDwip can provide dependable and sustainable electricity for local communities and maritime operations. Establishing renewable-powered charging stations for fishing boats presents an opportunity to lessen fuel reliance, cut down on carbon emissions and encourage eco-friendly fishing methods. This study presents valuable recommendations for policymakers and energy planners to create sustainable energy solutions specifically designed for the distinct challenges of NijhumDwip, aligning with Bangladesh's aspirations for green energy and sustainable development. Given the island's isolation, there is a notable lack of transmission infrastructure and modern facilities, making it an ideal candidate for renewable energy sources like solar, wind and biogas energy—potentially reducing its carbon footprint to near zero. Using HOMER software, various configurations of hybrid renewable energy systems were optimized based on system sizes, combinations of renewable energy sources, and other critical parameters. The total Net Present Cost (NPC) for this hybrid energy system was calculated at $5,149,628.00, with an impressive Cost of Energy (COE) of $0.216, which is quite reasonable considering the system's clean nature, ultimately protecting the island's biodiversity. |
