dc.description	In the state of affairs of horrible and deteriorated scenario of modern civilization, human nation has been trying for sustainable solutions in the cross-road of the development activities and man-made machinations utilizing his technical and engineering knowhow. In this context, appropriate engineering initiatives should be taken into consideration to save the nature and nature entities as well as to use the natural resources. The engineering knowledge should be developed, cultured and successfully utilized to the right stream. In this context, organizing “ I n t e r n a t i o n a l C o n f e r e n c e o n E n g i n e e r i n g , R e s e a r c h , I n n o v a t i o n a n d E d u c a t i o n I C E R I E 2 0 1 3 ” organized by the School of Applied Sciences and Technology of Shahjalal University of Science and Technology is obviously a positive step. Technical papers were invited from the academicians/ researchers/ professionals/ experts working in the field of engineering and technology. About 400 abstracts were received; after review, around 200 technical papers and 6 keynote articles were selected for publications in the Conference Proceedings after rigorous review. Papers have been lightly edited to homogenize the style and to revise the contents based on reviewers’ comments. However, the final responsibility for the contents, quality and the presentation of the papers is held by each individual author. In the proceedings, only the abstract of the papers are printed and hence published, however, full papers are available in a CD-Rom enclosed with the proceedings. We would like to acknowledge the great efforts of the authors, who jointly and/or individually contributed by submitting papers. I might appreciate the supports received from the reviewer’s who did it perfectly. The sincere contributions of the editors of the proceedings as well as Conveners and the members of all of the committees are acknowledged. Special heartiest thanks to Professor Dr. Mushtaq Ahmed, Dr. Md. Abu Hayat Mithu, Dr. Abu Yousuf, and Dr. Md. Shofiqul Islam for putting their excellent joint efforts for editing the proceedings including composing the text, figures, tables and photographs, which is indeed a tedious job. Finally, great appreciation is due to the Title Sponsors Ratanpur Steel Re-rolling Mills (RSRM) Ltd, Chittagong; Seven Circle Cement Limited, Dhaka for financing the major portion of the cost to organize the Conference. Special gratitude to Chevron Bangladesh for providing conference bags and to Lafarge Surma Cement Ltd for providing Gala Dinner of the conference.
